I Am Writing: A NaNoWriMo Experiment

So this novel…

It’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and I’m trying this thing where I just try to get through it even though I’m hating this new first-person POV I’ve switched over to. Who knows, I might end up with something I can salvage, right?

Okay, full disclosure, I’m not completely against how the story is currently playing out. Damaris (one of my protagonists) has a strong voice, and she’s not a bad storyteller. It’s taking a lot not to worry that the other two (Xiomara & Jordanny) won’t be as good, though. Will they sound like Damaris? Will they be bad at speaking? Is their POV even worth telling? I think about all of these things, all the time, but the rules of NaNoWriMo forbid me from going down this path. I’m only supposed to write and write and write. No editing. No research. All of that is for later. For now, I am only to write.

In case this particular brand of writing torture sounds appealing to you, join La Pluma y La Tinta in an Instagram NaNoWriMo challenge. It will either be a lot of fun or the worst thing you could ever do in life. Let’s find out together!

Raquel Ivelisse.
