When I finally decided to take my writing seriously, nourish my craft and make a career out of my talents, it was always with the intention of helping others along the way. This goal is not without its self-serving moments—it will undoubtedly feel great to have someone catapult into literary stardom after participating in my baby, the New Voices Reading Series.
But mostly, I can relate to those “lost” and “coasting” feelings I experienced before I accepted my calling as a writer. Every job I had felt empty. I bored easily. Misery followed me everywhere. If I can lift that fog from others’ lives, why wouldn’t I? Isn’t it our duty as human beings to help one another unlock the greatness within? Or maybe I’m just delirious from this detox I’ve undertaken…
Anywho, this is my long-winded writerly way of inviting you all to a reading series that is almost three years old. It has not gained any national recognition, but I hope it has entertained and enlightened our guests, and given our participating writers and poets the courage to continue working towards that magnum opus!
