I put writer in quotes because I’ve been preoccupied with very little writing and a whole lot of other stuff. I can now speak on a few of them.
1- I helped move my eldest into her college dorm up north. It’s a little weird having only one of my girls at home, but we’re adjusting pretty well. And let’s face it, with cellphones and instant messaging it’s hard not to be in constant contact with someone.
2- I found a new home for my reading series! This has me real excited because finally, we have a new home in Brooklyn. I’ve really enjoyed my time in East Harlem at La Casa Azul Bookstore, but El Barrio isn’t where I’m from. I needed this pet project of mine to reside in Bed-Stuy, the way I always wanted it to. Be on the lookout for exciting events planned at Simplicity Wine Bar & Cafe in the future!
3- I’ve been chosen to be a mentor for a young writer with Girls Write Now, a great organization that helps foster a young woman’s creativity. I haven’t met my mentee yet, but I’m so excited to help guide someone through this crazy writing world. Orientation begins next week…EEEK!
Eventually, I’ll get back to writing, once all the dust has settled and my brain isn’t filled with a million and one things at the same time. Either that or I’ll finally just crash one day, forcing my brain to empty out, and find that little voice in me that narrates all the good stories.
Until then…
xoxo,
Raquel Ivelisse
