I crave patience so much I branded the word on my arm.

Writing is more than just sitting in front of a blank page or screen and making a story appear. Us creatives have to remember that taking care of ourselves is included in the process. It’s very necessary. I’d like to personally pat myself on the back for embracing patience, even if for a little bit, and completing a full week of my meditation practice last month. I haven’t done it regularly since 2007 and it was missing from my life.

This practice in patience–actually sitting still for 20 minutes twice a day–brought me some clarity, refreshed me, put some pep in my step. I wrote something new. I WROTE SOMETHING NEW. It was beautiful. I can’t even understand why I ever stopped meditating.

This is just a reminder from me to you, that you can’t only focus on one part of your life at one time. You have to consider the bigger picture, and you have to be patient. In my case, my health affects my creativity affects my relationships affects my happiness affects my career affects my mood affects my everything. It’s all connected, and every little change in a positive direction helps.

I’m excited about what’s brewing, and I’m labeling this excitement a side effect of putting me and my well-being first. These new stories are so yummy; I can’t wait to share them with you!
