On Sunday, I hit up the Brooklyn Book Festival with one of my daughters and my little cousin, because where else would I be on a Sunday where books are readily available?
I wasn’t able to schmooze with writers or sit in on discussions or get the inside scoop on literary magazines and small presses this time around—kids have a way of stomping on networking plans with their hunger pangs and boredom. But it’s OK, seeing as I was still able to walk away with a few treasures:
Don’t ask me where I’m going to fit them. I’m in denial of exactly how much space I have in my tiny apartment for luxuries like a coffee table and books. But there was no way I was going to leave empty-handed. I’ll make room. For example, why exactly do I have a copy of the bible…?
Just kidding, mom!

Seriously, what do you need with the bible? I mean, you all ready know revelations and that’s the most important park of that book anyway.
😉
I swear that place is a crack den for people like me! I went with $50 in my pocket and spent all of it in about 20 minutes. If I hadn’t learned from past trips to the festival that I have to budget wisely and leave all plastic at home, I would have spent more. As it is, I knew I’d left it all at home and was STILL digging for extra money so I could buy. one. more. book.
C’mon! I swear! I can quit any time!
You have a copy of the Bible because you’re a book nerd and it’s kind of like owning the first classic ever printed. At least that’s what I tell myself. Same reason I have a copy of the Q’uran, which was handed out two Book Festivals ago.
@irene- HA! I’m going to tell my mom you said that 🙂
@kelly- I didn’t even include the books I bought for my daughter and my little cousins, PLUS the earrings I, for some odd reason, could not live without.
So glad I didn’t see the jewelry! Just finished Caring is Creepy. I thought I had it pegged in the first five pages and almost put it down. So glad I didn’t because it got, well, creepy.
