I have another blog/site that I update regularly, and last month I did a post on recommendations for autumn reads. Since then, I’ve found at least three scraps of paper with titles upon titles that piqued my interest. How on earth will I read all of these?
Let’s not even discuss how many books I’ve purchased/been gifted/borrowed from the library recently–I’m truly about to be overrun by my books!
Still, there is such an amazing selection of things to read. I doubt my BOOKS TO READ lists will ever be empty. Some of my latest “lustings” include:
Nine Months by Paula Bomer
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
A Brief Conversation and Other Stories by Earl Lovelace
Cook-Up in a Trini Kitchen by John Lyons
Black Fridays by Michael Sears
Besides my little tome, what books are on your never-ending lists?
xoxo,
Raquel Ivelisse
Will be very interested to hear what you think about Gone Girl. I liked it enough that I’ve been trying to snag copies of her other titles but, since this one has blown up, you can’t find anything anywhere.
Reading Caring is Creepy now (from Book Festival) and have some others I bought there on my list. Then there are the four that a merchant sent to me … and the ones piling up in my office. Like you, I doubt my list will ever be empty.
I recently finished NW by Zadie Smith and I’m currently reading The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides. In my stack of “To Read” at the moment are: Little Star – John Ajvide Lindqvist, The Woman Who Went To Bed For A Year – Sue Townsend, Don’t Get Too Comfortable – David Rakoff and My Ego Likes Compliments – Raquel Penzo. Still planning to pick up the new JK Rowling and Junot Diaz. I’m sure I’m forgetting a few titles.
Lately I’ve been on this Mark Twain fix – Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, a few of his earlier short stories, enjoying the humorist manner in which he tells a story. Now I understand why many consider him to be the greatest storyteller in American History.
Thinking, I might even watch the animated versions of these novels on Netflix.
Nice site, Penzo.
@kelly- I love that we’re kindred-book-devouring-spirits!
@nicole- See, now I’m going to look up the titles you added here and most likely add them to my list. It never ends!
@don- You probably won’t like the animated versions after you’ve read the actual books. It’s never the same.
Funny tidbit: I’ve never read anything by Mark Twain ever! Maybe I’ll indulge in some classics as my summer reading project.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Yeah, as soon as I met you and started reading your blog, I knew you were a kindred nerdy spirit! If anyone likes Young Adult novels and/or zombie/apocalyptic reading, check out the Maze trilogy (and its prequel) by James Dashner. Awesome!
I’ll have to keep my eyes open for any Twain that hits the take shelves. I think everyone has bits of the classics that they miss. I only recently read Three Musketeers. Really good but super dramatic … and those dudes were way too chivalrous for my taste.
